INTRODUCTION :The 20th century marketing / sales / advertising was mostly relied on traditional methods. With the advent of 21st century with internet becoming common, things began to change. As the technology advanced over the years, high speed internet connection was available not only on PCs, but also other devices like laptops, mobile phones and tablets.
Last few years we have witnessed what now we first called INTERNET MARKETING and now DIGITAL MARKETING. The traditional marketing was also called Offline Marketing and digital marketing as Online Marketing.
This led to division of Marketing professionals, with some claiming Offline was better and some said online was better, few were neutral and few felt both were useful. While there is no doubt that traditional marketing is useful in some ways , there is no denying that digital marketing is very important in many respects. Lets have a brief look:
1. FAST: Digital marketing is very fast compared traditional marketing. You have to select the proper marketing plan such as google adwords and you are ready to go. There is very little time lag.
2. CHEAP : Digital marketing is very cheap compared to traditional marketing. While budgets for traditional marketing of big companies run in crores, the budget for digital marketing is very less. sometimes 10 % of the traditional marketing.
3.MEASURABLE : The impact of digital marketing can be easily measured by using tools such as google analytics which gives exact figures such number of leads, prospects, customers, conversion ratio etc.
4. INBOUND MARKETING : As we know traditional marketing relies on tools such cold calling, email (spamming ) mobile SMS etc without taking into consideration customer background, needs, likes etc known as outbound marketing. Digital marketing is much better as it allows customers to choose the products/ services as their needs and they take initiative to establish communication by means of sharing their data such as name, email id, mobile numbers etc.
CONCLUSION : So overall we can say that digital marketing has certain distinct advantages compared to traditional marketing and it grow in importance over time, though traditional marketing has its own place and it will remain relevant to the overall marketing strategy.
